Couple Chooses Woops! Macaron Franchise for Retirement Investment
The Woops! kiosk is perfect for entrepreneurs seeking a low-cost business that is fun and simple to run
Tommy and Julia Maddux wanted to go into business after retirement but never found a good match until they found Woops! macaron franchise. They were so wowed by Woops! that they are opening three Woops! macaron kiosks in the Southeast, the first of which opened in November in Pensacola, Florida.
The couple, who live south of Nashville, visited Opry Mills mall last summer and fell in love with Woops! They grabbed a business card from Opry Mills owners Thomas and Angie Scott and immediately began looking for the perfect locations for their own Woops! macaron kiosks. They opened their first kiosk in Cordova Mall in Pensacola to overwhelming success and a top 10 franchise-wide ranking for holiday sales. Their daughter Courtney, who lives in Mobile, Alabama, helps run the kiosk. The Madduxes are opening a second location in Knoxville, Tennessee, this spring and are researching locations for a third kiosk.
The Woops! macaron kiosk business model is ideal for entrepreneurs looking for a new career opportunity. Woops! macaron kiosks offer a low initial investment and are easy to run, with no cooking or food prep, and small staffing requirements.
“We are very excited bring our authentic handmade macarons to the Florida Panhandle as well as the college town of Knoxville, Tennessee,” says David Sparks, Director of Franchise Development with Woops! “The Southeast is a fantastic market for Woops! and we’ve barely scratched the surface in that region.”
Woops! macarons are unique with little competition
The Madduxes fell in love with the quality, fun flavors and uniqueness of Woops! macarons, which are handmade in New York City, fast-frozen and shipped to franchisees nationwide. Macarons are a fun and hard-to-find treat that are perfect for year round gift giving, from birthdays to the holidays.
“You can buy a thousand cookies a thousand different places but you can’t buy a macaron just anywhere,” Tommy says. “The flavors are fantastic — key lime, lemon tart, red velvet — and are true to what they say they are. It’s a great handmade product that’s so unique. Customers walk up to our pretty white kiosk because it immediately draws their eye.”
Woops! business model is simple and streamlined
Woops! is a great investment for entrepreneurs like the Madduxes with no prior retail or food experience. The couple bought a condo in Pensacola so they can work and visit regularly, but rely on daughter Courtney to manage the day-to-day business. Hiring a great staff, the couple notes, is key to a successful kiosk.
“The product sells itself and the entire process is laid out by the franchise. It’s streamlined and easy to do, especially for people like us who don’t have a background in this sort of thing,” says Tommy, who retired from Nissan last year.
“I always ask people what their favorite flavor is. Nine times out of 10 if you give them a sample they buy some. I love seeing people’s faces when they take a taste,” says Julia, a retired public school teacher and administrator.
