Candice Lui fulfills lifelong dream of entrepreneurship by bringing the premier macaron franchise to Austin, Texas
“Austin is a very dynamic city and I definitely wanted to bring something unique here.” Candice says. “When I was out with my family, we got to talking about the lack of options for desserts in Austin. I started doing my research online, and I discovered Woops! It was love at first sight. I’ve always loved French macarons and knew that the array of international pastries and coffee would also be a hit in Austin. I wanted to franchise with a brand that had a proven business model. As a former academic advisor for the University of Texas in Austin, I don’t have an business experience, so I needed a brand that could make the running and managing of the business easy.”
When Candice made up her mind to franchise with Woops! she and her husband were off to New York City to see the Woops! bakeshop concept in action.
“The store was beautiful. My husband and I couldn’t help but to admire the wonderful array of macarons and pastries displayed and the gorgeous interior.” Candice says. “All of the pastries we tasted were delicious! We especially liked the French macarons, Belgian liege waffles, and the pate a choux. The coffee, teas and hot chocolate were excellent too!”
Making the leap to open a Woops! macaron franchise
Candice and her husband met with members of the Woops! executive team to learn more about the brand’s business model. Woops! made a significant investment to open an artisanal bakery in New York City, which hand-produces classic French macarons in more than 20 flavors, as well 30 other international desserts, such as Jewish rugelach, French almond croissants and Argentinian alfajor pastries. Our head pastry chef is a Belgian-born master who employs authentic European recipes he learned during his tenure in some of Europe’s finest establishments, as well as some he discovered during his travels around the world.
All Woops! products are made by hand in our bakery, fast-frozen and shipped to our franchise locations across the United States. The in-line bakeshops receive ready-to-bake products that can be prepared in 20 minutes.
“After visiting the bakeshop, and meeting with the leadership team, I was impressed that Woops! doesn’t cut corners in terms of quality,” Candice says. “They only use the best-possible ingredients, which is apparent from the very first bite. In a place like Austin, people are cognizant that what they put into their mouths is important.
