The premier macaron franchise gets the green light to bring its proven business model to the Golden State
With formal franchise registration paperwork approved, the State of California is now open to a whole new kind of Gold Rush: the Woops! Macaron franchise.
Yes, that classic French pastry, the macaron, is soon to appear in a California community near you as the Woops! executive team is looking for new franchise partners to open bakeshops or macaron kiosks in malls throughout the Golden State.
California is one of 12 states in the U.S. that requires franchisors to register their Franchise Disclosure Document, or FDD. This is good news for entrepreneurs interested in a lucrative, easy to operate business that now has state approval, says Ben Woodruff, VP of Franchise Development and the owner of a Woops! macaron kiosk in Atlanta. Later, this year we will open two other locations, another near Atlanta at the Mall of Georgia and in the Haywood Mall in Greenville, South Carolina.

We also receive exceptional support from the executive team, but more importantly, macarons are very hot right now. Customers love them and can’t get enough of them.”
Woops! is the nation’s premier macaron franchise. Founded in 2012 in New York City, Woops! is rapidly expanding across America. There are now nearly 40 locations since franchise development began in early 2016. Riding high on this sweet parade, Woops! will open new locations this year in Charlotte, North Carolina; Brooklyn, New York; Boston, Massachusetts; Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; San Antonio, Texas; and West Nyack, New York. This rapid expansion into several new markets has prepared us for the expansion we expect to take place in California.
“We see California as a natural fit for the Woops! franchise model as it is home to some of our nation’s hippest cities and some of our most celebrated cuisine,” Ben says. “Plus, the majority of the markets outside of New York are underserved and highly fragmented, particularly in California, which has several markets we couldn’t be more excited to enter.”

Woops! offers two franchise models: the bakeshops, which are more like café’s and the kiosks.
The macaron kiosk is the perfect gateway to an aspiring entrepreneur who has always dreamed of owning a small business. With a low initial investment, the macaron kiosk can be operated with minimal staffing. We know this model works well in malls throughout the country and is profitable. In 2016, the average annual sales of a Woops! macaron kiosk was $256,000.
The beauty of the macaron business is that it is adaptable and translates well in urban areas. Our bakeshops are hip with modern, European styling, and they appeal to the sophisticated American aesthetic. They can be slipped into smaller spaces of a minimum of 400 square feet and can go up to 1,000 square feet. In 2016, the average monthly sales of our Woops! bakeshops was $48,500.
In Europe, the café is not only a place to get a great cup of coffee and a treat, but it is also a place to socialize and meet friends. Our Woops! bakeshops offer the same welcoming environment and feature our macarons and a great deal more, including our entire line of over 30 international pastries and sandwiches. We also have our own branded coffee.
The bakeshops require only a small staff, but they will quickly become a beacon in the community as was the case with the Woops! bakeshop in Tucson, Arizona. That new location opened in 2016 and quickly became a thriving location as our new partner franchise in Brooklyn, New York, will soon discover.
